Through my work with the XR Crowd and ZeroEvents, I was in the position to identify and act upon the suddent opportunity to bring the 77th Venice International Film Festival’s Venice VR Expanded to Istanbul through their first-ever satellite program. Due to Covid travel restrictions and the general cancellation of physical events, the Venice Bienale identified and partnered with fourteen institutions around the world to help make the festival’s immersive content available to as many people as possible.
Working with my partners at the KARMA Lab, we brought the whole twelve day event together in less than two weeks. Soho House Istanbul offered to be our venue partner and ended up being the perfect location and existing community for the event. Other partners helped tremendously to both manage and support materially the event, which was done to bring attention to the artistic potential of VR for local creatives.
